Scope & code compliance (Loveland)
I focus on non-permit, non-structural home maintenance and improvements. For regulated work, the City of Loveland distinguishes between owner-occupied primary residences and rental / multi-family / non-residential properties.
Reference: Building Permit FAQ and Contractor Licensing.
Typically OK for me to do
- Drywall patching, caulking, trim & minor carpentry (non-structural)
- Hanging/mounting (TVs, shelves, mirrors), door hardware, locks, handles
- Painting and cosmetic repairs
- Home tech help (Wi‑Fi, smart devices, non-invasive installs)
- Owner-occupied homes only: like-for-like replacements where no permit is required
“Like-for-like” means replacing an existing fixture/device without adding new circuits/runs, opening walls, moving plumbing, or changing the system.
Outside my scope
- Structural work, remodels/additions, or any project that requires a building permit
- Gas line work of any kind
- Electrical panels, new circuits, load changes, or wiring that requires opening walls
- New plumbing runs, rerouting supply/drains, or trade-permit work
- Rental homes / multi-family / non-residential: structural, mechanical, electrical, or plumbing work
For rentals and non-residential buildings, Loveland generally requires a valid City of Loveland Contractor’s License for structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work.
Not sure? I’ll help you do it the right way.
If you’re unsure whether a project is permit-required or trade-regulated, I’m happy to help you scope it. If it’s outside my scope, I can refer you to a licensed professional. You can also confirm requirements with the City of Loveland Building Division.
